Xiaomi has been working hard at engraining itself in the budget smartphone game in various markets. The Redmi looks to give users decent specs for around $130. Well it looks like the company will be pushing the envelope. A new device has popped up showing a 5.5 inch 720p IPS display with an octa-core processor. There will be two variants, one clocked at 1.4GHz and one clocked at 1.7GHz. Both devices will have 1GB of RAM and Android 4.2.2.
Sadly, as with most budget devices, some things have to be sacrificed for others. There isn't LTE on-board. There are either TD-SCDMA or WCDMA options out there with the possibility of CDMA2000 versions coming out later. So if you're looking for LTE you'll have to look elsewhere, but the caveat is that the phone should have decent battery life without the worry of LTE draining it.
As far as budget phone sacrifices are concerned though, that appears to be it. It will come with a 13MP camera in the back, a 5MP front facing camera, and an option for expanding your storage with a microSD card option (up to an extra 32GB).
With the radios on-board, it looks like this will be heading to Chinese markets. We're not sure when we'll see the announcement for these new devices but rumors have it pegged for early April.
