After buying up Waze, Google announced they would use the acquisition to improve Google Maps. It hasn't taken long and we're already seeing some new features popping up in Maps to make the navigation experience much better. Starting today, Google Maps users will be able to see real-time reported traffic incidents from Waze users, which includes traffic accidents, construction, and a handful of other nuisances. Waze users aren't being left out of the fun, either, as they'll get access to Google Search within the Waze app to give users even more results when searching for something, and a new Google Street View feature added to the Waze map editor.

Hopefully this will be the first of many improvements we'll see across both apps. Anybody going to get a chance to use these apps while travelling today?

  1. Google Maps has been the perfect app for years now. It truly is the best of any Google application. Used it daily and loved to show off turn by turn Navigation, Street View to my Apple friends. They have now updated and with the new update it has gone to the worst of Google or any application offered in all of the half million apps on the Play Store. Amazing how bad it is. Crashes, cumbersome and looks like some 12 year old whipped up something in his bedroom. I sure hope Google will listen to almost 100% of the 1 star reviews in the past couple of weeks about this. Incorporating Waze to this mess makes me doubt that will help. I’m lucky as I’m still able to use the wonderful old Maps and Navigation 6.14.4 and will never update that version. But if Google rams that down our throats I’m seriously looking at the iSheep or Windows phones. I need the best of Navigation and it’s not Google anymore, not even in the ballpark.

    1. I agree. I reverted back to the version of Google Maps for Android that came with my S4. Google Navagation went from being a killer app to one that makes me consider paying for an alternative.
