Microsoft: it's a name synonymous with a lot of things. Money, power…. and, of course, patents. The technology giant has never had an issue flexing out their patent muscles to companies and getting royalties, and today is no exception. Today, Android tablet maker Wistron Corp has reached a patent agreement with Microsoft, and (more than likely) saved themselves a lot of legal headaches down the road.
We are pleased that Wistron is taking advantage of our industrywide licensing program, established to help companies address Android’s IP issues,” said Horacio Gutierrez, corporate vice president and deputy general counsel of Intellectual Property and Licensing at Microsoft.
The company is licensing the patents for everything from mobile hones to tablets, eReaders and beyond that utilize Android or Chrome. The amount being made by Microsoft is yet undisclosed to the public, but we do know that HTC hands over as much as $5 per Android device to Microsoft.
What do you think of Microsoft's patent hold on the market? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
Did you even inform yourself about tcpa and other threads To our freedom? Microsoft is in fact the Most agressive oponent To open source and freedom of information. Also is microsoft charged for highest Rates inorder of illegal Monopoly tactics and other antitrust infringements. this company works together with Scientology and makes no halt before the law.
This happens all the time between companies. It seems to only be news when the word Microsoft pops up.
“The cancer of our century”? Serious overkill there!
Chill!!
Microsoft ist the cancer of our century. They should be only a bad peace of regrettable history right now. Google gave us freedom for what we have to fight for against evil that microsoft is. Think about tcpa, only open source saves us for ms evil plans.
I believe that people should get royalties when others use their IP. But I also believe that if Microsoft had put this much energy into Windows Phone they would have a hit product and wouldn’t have to be chasing every Android/Chrome OEM around with their hands out. They kept saying they don’t have the resouces to release both GSM versions and CMDA versions together and this and that, which is why I ended up on Android. But they do have the resources to go around suing everyone.
HAHAHA! Android sucks and soon every OEM will realise that
