Last fall during their big product announcements, one item that was a bit of a surprise was Google Clips. The small camera was designed to do just what its name suggests – grab short video clips that can then be uploaded to social media. It is hard to gauge whether Google Clips has been a successful product for the company as there has been very little news surrounding the cameras since their release. However, the Google Store recently changed pricing to offer consumers a $50 discount on the cameras, lowing the price from the regular $249 to $199.

According to the Google Store, Google Clips will be on sale for a two week period starting today, April 30th, and running through May 13th. The offer is only valid in the U.S. and cannot be combined with other offers or discounts.

One of the features of Google Clips is the built in AI. According to Google the camera can recognize faces and expressions – apparently including pets – so that it does a better job of catching interesting action instead of someone just walking past the camera. This ability improves over time according to Google. The AI also drives selection of clips so that not everything is saved, consuming valuable space, but just clips that are worthy according to the algorithms. Google also points out that Google Clips work even when not connected to the Internet and the clips are only saved to the cloud when a user chooses to do so.
