With the overwhelming amount of Tablets announced mid to late 2010 up until now, one would think that there would be quite an amount of them circulating the globe. However, an inductive study by Mike Abramsky, an RBC analyst, shows that the market for tablet ownership is still quite large and promising. According to the chart, 99.7% of people in the world still do not own a tablet of any kind, as of the end of 2010. What the heck is that about? And how in the world do we get an Android tablet in the hands of these 99.7% unaware and depraved individuals? We'll be working on that one folks.
Abramsky's chart points to a small smartphone and tablet user base of 394 million worldwide as opposed to other markets like TV subscription, total PC's and mobile subscribers
According to the Business Insider:
Abramsky predicts more than 400 million tablet users worldwide by 2014, including 185 million tablets sold in 2014. But he thinks Google Android, not Apple, will come to lead the market, representing 40% of the 2014 tablet market, versus 34% for Apple, 13% for Microsoft, 8% for BlackBerry, and 5% for HP WebOS
Until we can find a way to resolve this horrific issue, if you know of anyone who is not rocking an Android tablet of some sort, be sure to point them in the direction of Talk Android, where we'll do our best to persuade them as to why they ‘need” the functionality of one. Currently I don’t think world + dog actually NEED a tablet. Apple create desire for gadge by creating premium tech at premium prices. If Android tabs are to succeed the manufacturers must create a tablet to appeal to everyone except Apple fanboiz / girlz. Something below $300 would be great. Below is my spec with wants and don’t wants.4
Don’t want.
1. Shonky camera or video. My 12mp camera has a great lens and besides, holding up a 7-10 inch gadge looks daft.
2. Webcam, unless there is a good video comms app. Whoops Microsoft just bought Skype – that’s Android Skype dead then.
3. 3G or GPS. Have an expensive 24 month contract thanks, so just allow me to tether to phone or GPS easily when I need to.
4. To pay extra for 16gb / 32gb etc. model. Give me an SD card slot and allow me to connect my HD / SSD via USB (3) port.
DO want
1. A decent well thought out stock screen keyboard. Who designs a shonky keyboard with no cursor keys? LISTEN UP GOOGLE.
2. Fast CPU / GPU, decent screen and great (10 hrs plus) battery life.
3. WIFI, DLNA, HDMI & full Bluetooth. So I can see watch and listen to my media.
4. A unified Android platform for both phones & tabs plus a better market to get to the great apps quickly and leave the shonky ones in the dust.
Am I expecting too much?

Curse, you hit the nail on the head with your reasons. One reason I will eventually get a tablet, wifi only version, is my laptop is big and gets hot sitting on my lap. I am not a serious computer guy so a tablet would be cool for lounging on the couch, surfing the web and checking email. then when needed I will fire up the laptop for loading new music or for using word or some other program that you need a laptop for. I do like the instant on of the tablets and not having to wait for the laptop to boot up. I personally will wait till Honeycomb is on the 200 – 300 dollar tablets, then I will get one.
i agree with the post above. tablets are unnecessary, we already have phones and lap tops. they just don’t have any extra functionality that a smart phone or laptop don’t have. I’m a gadget guy, but in my opinion tablets are expensive and a waste of money. they’re something yuppies buy just to try and look the part and say they have one. tablets are a waste of time, money and especially resources.
Most of us don’t have a tab, why?
Reason number one: Money
Most of us can’t throw up $500 every time a new gadget comes up.
Reason number two: Usage
Most of us already have an android phone, a desktop PC, a laptop/netbook. The tab really don’t fit in somewhere. They try to market it as something you can use to check the newspapers from the couch. That can be done from the phone, laptop/netbook or even the TV.
Be on the net while travel? same there, phone, netbook, etc.
The cheap china tabs(and the Nook Color) are marketed as eBook readers that can do some extra, I think they got better marketing then the expensive tabs as Galaxy or Xoom that are small computers that can do less then your netbook for a higher price.
I want a tab, I just can’t fit it in my economy nor really understand what I’d use it for.
I am good with my EVO right now since it can basically do anything that a tab can, but i would very much like a tab. As of right now if i need to do anything extra then i would just use my laptop and im good. I think on of the big reasons that i don’t get a laptop, is that im still in college (about to graduate) and have no money really. Once i get out into the “work force” and actually start making money then i will consider it. Also with the rising cost of gas especially here in America (through out the nation) i think that will make this expansion go a lot slower, because what is needed more, transportation or technology. So i would love a tab, but with having to pay more for a data plan for it, and paying for living expenses, i think it really hinders that for a lot of people.
