Users of the popular cloud storage client Dropbox have learned the hard way that cloud storage is not 100% reliable thanks to a bug in Dropbox's desktop client that caused users of Selective Sync to lose years of media. Dropbox confirmed the bug and is acting accordingly, releasing an updated desktop client and preventing the old versions from working. The company is also implementing new safeguards to prevent future incidents.

For users affected by the bug, Dropbox is offering up a free year of Dropbox Pro which won't bring back your lost files but it should soften the blow and it shows that Dropbox is committed to customer satisfaction. Were any of you affected by the desktop bug? Let us know in the comments.
