Hands on with touchless gestures from Elliptic Labs at CES 2014

Touchless gesturing is nothing new with smartphones and tablets, but we have only seen it utilizing the front facing camera. It works okay, but it’s too limited. Elliptic Labs has developed a much better version utilizing 4 speakers on either the front or sides of the device. Using ultrasound, gesturing is so much easier and effortless.

This is something that has been in development for a couple of years, but it will finally come to fruition this year. They released the SDK so any manufacturer can implement it on their smartphones or tablets.

The folks at Elliptic said to expect the first device sometime this year. What manufacturer(s)? They wouldn’t tell me, but they were using a Samsung phone in the demo. Coincidence?

Anyways, check out the hands on (no pun intended) video after the break.
