Blockbuster woes could put kink in Droid X ad campaign

Blockbuster has been in the news a lot lately, but not in the way they would prefer. Reports are coming in that the iconic video rental company will likely be filing for bankruptcy next month, resulting in the closing of stores across the country. Now, you may be asking, what does this have to do with Android?

Well, you may be familiar with the aggressive Motorola Droid X advertising campaign, which includes a spot showcasing the use of the Blockbuster mobile app. The filing would likely not put a halt to the service, but it may slow down the availability of new releases, and result in a slight increase in rental prices to try and make up for lost revenue.

This is all speculation at this point, but it will be interesting to see how the move could potentially effect the service provided by the Blockbuster mobile app.

I go to Blockbuster occasionally, but if they close down from bankruptcy, I will not miss them. Our technology is advancing in ways we cannot explain. And I have not used the Blockbuster app for Android, don’t even know what it does. But the fact that it was included on the phone and can’t be removed from the get-go without root, what makes them think I’ll want to use it?

The prices are already to high as it is. If they increase the price they might as well just shut it all down.

Eh, Blockbuster is the buggy-whip manufacturer that’s been on borrowed time for years. The Netflix Android app will become available soon, and that’s that.
