Wireless earbuds, particularly for sporting and fitness activities, can get expensive. The Jaybird X2's sit at $100 or more. While quality headphones, not everyone wants to invest that much money into earphones. Enter, the Syllable D700 wireless sport earbuds. Syllable believes they're on par with more pricey headphones, and they might just be.

Find out how the Syllable D700 performs right after the break.

Design

I've used the Syllable D700 headphones for a little over a week now, taking them with me on runs through various trails and paths. The design is a bit of a mixed bag. The earphones feel comfortable in the area, to the point where your ears won't feel irritated for them being in longer than forty minutes.

On the other hand, they do have a bit of a wonky design. I found it difficult to get positioned in my ear correctly, which required a few minutes of trying to adjust them. They're far from plug-and-play earphones, but once you have them in and positioned the way you want, they work phenomenally well.

The D700's certainly aren't the nicest looking pair of earphones on the block, but they're practical. They feel nice in the ears and are fairly flexible as well. At $20, you're not going to care if you lose these earphones on a run, jog or some other sporting activity, which makes them pretty nice.

Performance

Syllable's D700 performed well on every run I took them on. As far as the technological performance went, the Syllable D700's work, but not as well as you might like. The D700's use a power button to start the Bluetooth pairing process, which is no problem if implemented well. Unfortunately, despite having an instruction manual in front of me, it took me awhile to actually get the D700's Bluetooth signal seen by my phone.

After a series of turning them on and off, I was able to finally get it, but they're hardly easy to operate. Thankfully, once you get it paired with your phone, they'll automatically connect to your handset every time you turn them on. That in mind, you'll only have to deal with the above mentioned escapade once.

Battery life is probably my favorite things about these headphones. They're rated for 5 hours of music playing and 180 hours of standby time, but after a full charge when I first got them, I haven't had to charge them since. It's impressive, if you ask me.

Sound Quality

The actual sound quality of these headphones are nice. Music is crisp and clear, for the most part. There are select songs where the bass feels a little off or a more loud and fast-paced song will sound as if it's being sung through a tin can. That can be a bit frustrating, but for the most part, my playlists have been played with crisp and clear quality.

These headphones are also noise-cancelling. I'm usually skeptical with that term, as most noise cancelling earphones I've used have hardly been that. But on the other hand, Syllable's D700 does an excellent job at truly keeping all other sound out. All you'll hear with these is your playlist and nothing else.

Closing

All in all, Syllabe's D700 wireless headphones are a mixed bag, as mentioned earlier. They have some decent pros, but also an overwhelming amount of cons. However, I'd say they're entirely worth the $20 price tag. I'd personally be a bit nervous taking a $100+ pair of headphones on a run, which makes the D700's a perfect alternative. Sound quality really isn't that bad, they're durable and feel nice in the ears. And, if you lose them on a run, so what?
