Govee

Govee is an accessories brand that has made a big name for itself when it comes to RGB lighting devices. Whether it's table lamps, Glide Wall Lights, light strips for behind the TV, or even lights for the interior of your car, Govee makes them all and seemingly, at an affordable price too. The Aura Lite or the RGBWW Smart Lamp as it's also called is the latest table lamp from Govee and offers Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. This means it to be controlled from an app on your smartphone or virtual assistants such as Alexa and Google Assistant, with scenes, modes, music synchronization, and a choice of 16 million colors on offer.

We've had one of Govee's Aura Lite Table Lamps in for review, so join us after the break to see how it's fared.

Design

Sporting a rubberized bottom to keep it stable, the Aura Lite has a cylindrical design made from plastic that allows the RGB light to shine out when powered on. When turned off, the plastic casing isn't the prettiest thing around it's inoffensive and once you turn the light on the spread of light is impressive.

On the top of the lamp are easily accessed (and responsive) touch controls to switch colors and scenes, as well as dim and brighten the output, with a central touch button to power the light on and off.

App

The app is intuitive and easy enough to use with easily found options to manually adjust the brightness, set multiple timers, and choose from a smorgasbord of colors if you want a particular hue. Weirdly, Google's Home App is able to provide quick access to basic controls such as On/Off and brightness than the Govee Home app.

The four main tabs are called Music, Color, Scene, and DIY, letting you choose to sync the light to music from your phone or environment, choose and save a particular go-to color, select one of the 30 built-in scenes, as well as create your own custom scene. The scenes are a little hit and miss and while some are nice to look at for a time, I usually settle on a particular color.

Performance

Set-up is nice and easy. Just install the Govee Home app on your Android or iOS smartphone, open it up and click on the ‘+' sign to add a new device, tap on Indoor Lighting, scroll down and tap on ‘Govee Aura Lite Table Lamp'. Tap on the Aura Lite Table Lamp when the app has detected it via Bluetooth after which you'll be asked to enter in your WiFi login details, and finally, to name the device. Handily, the power cord is around eight feet long which gives you lots of leeways when it comes to placement.

Govee's Aura Lite is capable of outputting 350 lumens which means it can light up a bedroom in warm or cool white (2200K to 6500K) or any of the other 16 million colors, all without straining your eyes. And, if it's a dim night light that you need the Aura Lite does that with ease, in the color you desire. With 30 scenes to choose from including Night Mode, Gradient, Dance Party, and Christmas, there's a light effect to suit most occasions.

Tired of waking up badly? Set up the Warm Sleep Aid and Soft Wake Up feature to help you fall asleep gently as the room dims or wake peacefully with warm colors.

But, what about party lights? Yup, the Aura Light will synchronize itself to the beat of the music being played which means a strategically placed unit can help bring the party to life.

One of my favorite things about the lamp is that the touch controls light up, and if you've turned the lamp off just enough light remains to quickly scurry into bed before it goes entirely dark. It's a little thing but extremely useful.

Conclusion

Govee Aura Lite Lamp review: A color sensation for every occasion 14

With an RRP of $39.99, Govee's Aura Lite Table Lamp is the smart lamp I never knew I needed on my bedside table. It's plenty bright enough so the main lights can stay off but also dims down enough for use as a dedicated night or reading light. The music synchronization is cool to look at even if you aren't having a party, and it's easy to control both in person and via the app. It's not the most premium of builds but it is solid and then again, you aren't being asked to pay a premium price.

At $39.99, the Aura Lite stands out for value, features, and sheer ease of use. Whether it's a tablet lamp for the office, lounge, or a fun night light for the kid's bedroom, Govee's Aura Lite will light up your life in as many colors as you like.
