Terraria
If you're into creative and survival games, Terraria offers a perfect blend of both in a highly addictive, 2D building game. It's been around for a while, too, which means you're stepping into a game that's had plenty of time to perfect its features and get polished up.
There's tons to do in Terraria, including building and crafting for survival and fun, spelunking into dungeons, fighting bosses, brewing potions, creating new armor and clothes, and more. It's got some similarities to Minecraft, but with way more retro charm.
This version of the game has been totally built for mobile, and it supports multiplayer, too, in case you wanted to group up with some buddies to fight some enemies. If you're all testing out Play Pass, this is an excellent place to start.
Bridge Constructor Portal
Do you like building? Solving puzzles? Borderline psycopathic, homocidal robots? Bridge Constructor Portal is your game.
The game takes the classic Bridge Constructor formula, which you've probably played before, but skins everything with Portal and Valve Labs elements. And yes, those puzzles lean heavily into orange and blue teleportation portals, morbid humor, angry turrets, and companion cubes. It's not a real Portal game, but man, it's fun.
There's a ton of content in this game, too. You'll get 60 levels to try and solve, and it's fully compatible with gamepads. Oh, and GLaDOS gets her original voice actor back for some seriously funny commentary. Check it out.

Monument Valley 1 & 2
Monument Valley took the mobile world by storm by offering a surreal puzzle experience. You'll navigate some dream-like structures and geography, manipulating your environment to guide Princess Ida through some optical illusions.
Google Play Pass includes Monument Valley, plus its direct sequel that delivers even more levels and designs to explore. It's just as critically acclaimed as the first title, but they both have their place. Monument Valley 2 has you navigating Ro and her daughter throughout these impossible worlds, but they're distinctly different and unrelated so you can play either, both, or in any order.
If you're looking for something peaceful and relaxing to unwind, or you just want your mind blown by environment design, check these out. Definitely one of the highlights on this list.

Reigns
Reigns might be my personal favorite on this list, and I've already put tons of time into it. It's a pretty simple game that relies on swiping left and right, kind of like a gamified Tinder experience. You play a ruling king over your country, and you're faced with tons of decisions every day. Each of those decisions will affect your rating in four categories: church, population, army, and money. The game is a delicate balancing act, because if your army meter fully depletes than you'll be overrun by invading countries. But you have to be careful, because if the church becomes too powerful, then you'll be overthrown and a new religious ruler will take your place.
After you inevitably die, your heir does take over and you can continue playing forever. Some upgrades persist across rulers, and there are quests that have to be done across your entire bloodline. It's an easy time waster, whether you have an hour to play or just 15 minutes.
There are three versions of this game to play, all included on Play Pass, including Reigns, Reigns: Her Majesty, and Reigns: Game of Thrones. Her Majesty puts you in control of a queen instead of a king with all kinds of different storylines and interactions, and Game of Thrones incorporates the world of Westeros into the Reigns formula. Play Pass might just be worth it for these three alone, in my opinion.
Knights of the Old Republic
So far we've talked about games that still kind of feel like mobile games. But the best Play Pass games can deliver that traditional console experience, like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
KoTOR is a classic game that was originally released for the Xbox way back, but it's since been ported to smartphones. It's not a gimped version of the game, either, which means you're probably going to want a controller to truly enjoy this one.
But this is easily one of the most engrossing, complex games you're going to find on a smartphone. It's a full-fledged Bioware adventure, with tons of items, quests, and content, plus diverting conversations and storylines that span a huge story in theStar Wars universe. You can recruit your own party to help you through the game, master Force powers, build your own lightsaber, and engage in a bustling world across a huge galaxy. You won't find games of this scope just browing Flappy Bird clones, trust me.

Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley took classic Harvest Moon-style gameplay, and modernized it for the current crop of consoles and devices. It was eventually ported to mobile with optimized controls and extra features, and that's the version available on Google Play Pass. Not only is this one of the best Google Play Pass games available right now, it might be one of the best games on the entire market, period.
For those unfamiliar, Stardew Valley puts you in charge of your own farm. Your job is to grow crops and products to make money, then continue building the farm up and cultivating relationships. You can eventually start a family in between scouring mines and dungeons for other resources, cooking, and tending to livestock, so there's no shortage of stuff to do and things to get into.
The game strikes a great balance of being peaceful and engrossing, and it's all really peaceful without any fighting or boss battles. If you're itching for something relaxing that can still hold your attention, give it a whirl.
Game Dev Tycoon
Game Dev Tycoon got in early on the simulator craze a few years ago, and while there are plenty of similar games available now, GDT still has a good bit of charm that makes it stand out well enough.
Like the title implies, you're a game developer. You start off building games for comptuers in your garage in the 1980's, and slowly build your way up to the top of a game development studio. You can branch out into making games for mutliple platforms, building and maintaining MMOs, creating your own consoles, and more. You can build custom game engines for your software, you handle the marketing, and you're in charge of hiring and managing your staff. It's complex, but not too complex to put people off.
I've sunk tons of hours into this on Steam since it's been available for the last few years, so I can fully recommend this one as a solid time waster. There have also been some updates to add in new features, so there's no shortage of content and replayability here, making this one of the best Play Pass games for someone itching for a well-rounded simulator title.
This War of Mine
If you want something that's a little more gripping in the storytelling department, This War of Mine is an excellent choice if you missed it on other platforms. It's gloomy, though, so be warned.
The game puts you in charge of a band of survivors. You can't leave during the day because of nearby snipers, so you'll have to do all of your exploration at night. This day/night cycle drives the games pace, but also really implants the sense of danger and worry that This War of Mine tries to convey.
You'll have to make some tough decisions regarding your group, and not everyone involved is guaranteed to make it to the end of the story. It can be a little heart-wrenching, but also incredibly powerful.
This is definitely one of the best Play Pass games you can pick up, and you get the entire experience + the official DLC for more gameplay once you're done. Check this one out.
