If you own a smart TV, you may notice that Netflix, YouTube, and other popular streaming apps already exist on the device. They allow you to watch on-demand content beyond your mobile phone for a better experience. Elon Musk, owner of Twitter-turned-X, is planning to add his service to the list in the coming days.

Musk's new video-dedicated app will rival YouTube, use AI, and they'll call it X TV. Here's more information on the app.

X TV sounds inappropriate, but brings many possibilities

X's CEO, Linda Yaccarino, has shared details on what to expect from the company's latest innovation. X TV will work similarly to its social media counterpart and have a trending algorithm. So you're most likely to see what's generating buzz under the search menu, or a For You feed.

When you start watching, Linda says you can continue that experience on another device. The app supports multi-device compatibility. If you were watching a video on your TV, you could resume it on your phone when you're away from home, or do the reverse. Screen casting on your TV is an available option if you prefer to view content from your phone.

The app will also use artificial intelligence (AI), although it's unclear how that will play out. But it may be something like the Grok AI tailored to make recommendations based on your watch history, preferences, or user behavior. It could also tie into the advanced search system.

Fans are clamoring for X TV to come sooner

Linda Yaccarino, and the X News account, posted a short clip of what the X TV app looks like on the X app (wordplay intended). It features a home and search button in the top right corner and a video grid at the center. The YouTube clone has received positive reactions from fans in the comment section.

We've long awaited a YouTube alternative with a strong presence. But our choices haven't looked all that good. There are the likes of TikTok facing ban threats, and others not having TV apps.

Elon Musk is filling a major gap in the entertainment market. The possibility of X TV integrating with the X social media platform alone creates a more connected experience. You could watch something on the new app and easily share it with your followers or join discussions about it on the social media app.

The next YouTube is still a work in progress

X hasn't shared information on X TV's release timeline, or subscription model, if any. You can keep an eye on their official online channels for the latest news. The app's launch brings excitement and also faces several challenges that make experts say that it won't replace YouTube.

For one, the Twitter rebranding issue didn’t sit well with longtime fans, the lack of successful exclusive content from Elon Musk, and many other controversies. I'm still on team YouTube, but I'm also eager to see how X TV plays out with the top gun. Only time will tell.
