WhatsApp is the world's most popular instant messaging app. Sure, in North America, platforms like Facebook Messenger and iMessage tend to steal a lot of their market share, but worldwide, it is major. After all, it has more than 2 billion active users each month.
WhatsApp continues to cement its lead by adding more and more features that make WhatsApp a one-stop shop for a lot of your social needs. This time, one of the headlining features being developed is the ability to attend and create group events, among many others.
What Are The New Features That Meta Is Cooking Up For WhatsApp Users?
Meta (formerly Facebook) is the parent company of WhatsApp and they've done a good job improving the app from what it used to be into something a lot more social. There are several features in the works right now that will improve your experience when using the app, so let's talk about them.
Group Events
I don't know many people who use WhatsApp who aren't on at least one group page. They're a great way for people with common interests or who have a common association to share information and keep in contact with each other. But now, the functionality of groups will be taken a step further with group events, according to TheSpAndroid.
This feature will allow you to schedule an event for everyone in a group very easily, whether it's a group video call, a group voice call, or an actual in-person meetup. You'll be able to set a date, a time, a location, and a description, which can also be edited or canceled by the creator at a later time. Group members will be able to RSVP for these events too and will get reminders when the event is finally near.
You'll also be able to have multiple events created at a time and there'll even be an “Events” section where you can easily see everything that has been scheduled in chronological order.
A New Status Composer
If you post many status updates on WhatsApp, you'll be happy to know that WhatsApp is working on an updated UI for the status update composer. Instead of needing to choose whether you want to post text or media from the start, you'll get a single screen that lets you toggle quickly between text, video, and photo updates.
Option For Default Media Upload Quality
WhatsApp is notorious for crushing the quality of media that you send in messages to others. They introduced a HD quality option that helps retain a lot more quality and I turn it on 9 times out of 10.
One feature that's going to be introduced is the ability to set a default media upload quality so that you don't need to worry about manually setting HD quality for all the media you send. I'm open to having that feature right away.
Settings For Third-Party Stickers With Your Avatar
I don't do much with WhatsApp avatars, but if you do, you might know that other people can share stickers with you that include your avatar (similar to Snapchat). If you're not a fan of this, a privacy setting is in the works that will allow you to choose exactly who can feature your avatar: your contacts, selected contacts, or nobody.
