Over the years, developers have often added new features to iOS apps ahead of their Android counterparts. I'll even go as far as saying that some app developers actually penalize Android users, as evidenced by the lack of a dark mode option on the Snapchat app but which has been present on the iOS app since 2019. The good news is that Snapchat is said to be working on adding dark mode to its Android app. The bad news? It's being reported that the eye-saving feature may be locked behind a monthly subscription.
The leaked info comes via Alessandro Paluzzi who tweeted that Snapchat may ask Android users to pay $4 monthly for the Snapchat Plus subscription in order to access dark mode. Those who already subscribe to Snapchat Plus won't worry much about this report, but it may irk those on the free tier who actually want dark mode to be added.
Before we raise the pitchforks, it's important to remember that this is leaked information and as such, it may be out of date, one of a dozen sales pitches by Snapchat execs looking to increase revenue, or it may simply be wrong. If accurate though, it's just another case of an app developer treating Android users with disdain.
Would you sign up for Snapchat Plus at $4 monthly just to get access to dark mode? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
