In January alone, the Samsung S24 series hit a record-breaking 1.21 million pre-orders in South Korea. It's the highest sales logged in the S series so far. Without a doubt, the new smartphone lineup is winning hearts worldwide.

The S24 Series introduces many powerful features, including AI for real-time translation and more. Everyone’s also abuzz about its 200MP camera for great low-light photos and up to 8K video at 30fps. It’s all powered by Qualcomm’s monster Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which offers improved clock speeds and smoother performance for resource-intensive tasks.

Select Galaxy S24 phones will use the Exynos processor instead, which sparks worries that some users might miss out on the full potential of the AI features. However, experts predict that the Exynos may even outperform its Qualcomm counterpart. In fact, here are five more features you'll enjoy, regardless of your device model.

Samsung ditched its signature curves

For years, Samsung has teased you with its popular design choice in the Galaxy S series. While they were fascinating, they brought numerous practical drawbacks. For one, the curved design caused your palm or fingers to accidentally interact with the display.

In a surprising turn of the Unpacked event, the tech giant has shifted from this design to a completely flat screen. Now, not only do you have a clean and minimalist view, but you're free from glares around the phone edges. To add, there's a wider selection of phone cases and screen guards to choose from.

Those who favored the curved Samsung flagships may see it as a loss. But Samsung has thrown in the new Gorilla Glass Armor to soften the blow, a significant upgrade from the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 material they used on previous models. Corning claims that “it's the toughest Gorilla glass yet,” promising three times drop resistance and 75% reflectance reduction.

SDR dimming protects your eyes and battery

Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) Dimming is a hidden feature on the S24 that tackles brightness imbalance when watching High Dynamic Range (HDR) content. Let's say you're watching an HDR-supported movie. You notice that the subtitles at the bottom of your screen are bright and distracting.

With SDR Dimming, the brightness reduces, so they're readable without competing with the vibrant HDR colors. One major benefit of using this feature is eye strain reduction. Considering how long people stay glued to their devices, you want to ensure that your eyes aren't constantly adjusting between glowing and dark areas, causing fatigue.

Always-On Display comes alive with wallpapers

The Galaxy S24 predecessors offered a dark-themed Always-On Display (AOD) where you could quickly glance at information without waking the phone. Meanwhile, the new smartphone series supports wallpapers. When your device locks, a dimmed version of your lockscreen wallpaper is what you'll see on the AOD, along with information from widgets.

The screen is still limited to specific widgets from stock apps, such as Calendar, Clock, Reminder, Samsung Health, System, and Weather. But it draws from the OLED panel's 1Hz refresh rate to save power when showing wallpapers, making it more efficient and reflective of your style.

Voice focus keeps your attention on callers

Another standout upgrade on the S24 series is Voice Focus. It uses AI to identify human voices and boost them, while reducing or eliminating background noise. This feature works across regular phone, video, and app-specific calls.

It's typical for Android users to make adjustments during a call from the Quick Settings panel. You're either switching to a speakerphone or changing the Bluetooth output. It's most likely why Samsung has added Voice Focus there. When you expand the panel, you'll find the Mic mode button, allowing you to switch from the standard call mode to Voice Focus.

Copy and paste photo objects between apps

Thanks to recent updates for the Samsung Gallery app, powered by Android 14 and One UI 6.1, you now have the Image Clipper among editing tools. It helps you to select and turn any object in photos to a sticker. But that's not the best part.

While pressing and holding the object, you can move it to another app with a different finger. For example, you're working on a children's story in Google Docs, and you have an animated dog photo in your Gallery app. You can cut out the dog and paste it on the document with a few swipes.

There's more than meets the eye with Samsung

The Samsung S24 series, though not officially launched yet, offers exciting features for pre-order customers to experience first. They include all other functionalities we've mentioned. Considering Samsung's tendency to unveil hidden features over time, more surprises may surface months after the series hits the market. Pre-orders are currently open in the UK and US, with the release date scheduled for January 31.
