Rumor: Galaxy S III May Be Waterproof Courtesy of Liquipel 2

Anyone who has accidentally dropped their phone in the toilet will be happy to hear the following rumor.  The Galaxy S III may be produced with a Liquipel coating, making it waterproof under several meters of water pressure.  Since Liquipel is a nano coating, it will protect your device inside and out.  The treatment is also completely clear, so you won't be able to tell the phone is waterproof with the naked eye.

The rumor came from a reliable independent phone retailer in the UK.  The source also mentioned that the insurance coverage on the phone would be altered, most likely due to the phone's new impervious nature.

It's entirely possible that this rumor is true, since you can send your current phone to Liquipel and have it coated for around $60.  Samsung's mass production would cut their waterproofing cost per unit down considerably.

Since the Galaxy S III isn't going to debut at the Mobile World Congress this February, we'll have to wait and see if this rumor pans out.  For the benefit of cell phone users everywhere, we hope that Samsung takes “the plunge”.

    1. no, liquipel can waterproof phones with removable batteries. It basically dispells water at a molecular level so the phone doesn’t really get wet at all.
