How the privacy display works

Where it moves past Samsung
What caught my eye is how selectively it works. Xiaomi showed privacy masking applied to a single floating window or one half of a split-screen view, rather than the all-or-nothing approach most privacy modes take.
Private notifications on the lock screen
Lock screen alerts get the same treatment, with sensitive notifications hiding themselves from anyone viewing at an angle while staying readable head-on. How often do you actually need the whole screen hidden, rather than just the message that just popped up?
Dual 200MP Leica cameras
On the imaging side, GSMArena's report says both the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max move to a dual 200MP setup co-engineered with Leica. It's the same resolution race we've seen from Xiaomi's sister brand with the Poco F9 Ultra and F9 Pro, but with Leica tuning on top.

An 8,500mAh battery and new Snapdragon silicon
Leaks point to battery capacities of up to 8,500mAh, made possible by high-density silicon-carbon cells, though Xiaomi hasn't put a number on it yet. The phones are also tipped to run Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, the next step on from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 we covered earlier this year, so the exact chip name could still shift before the keynote.
Launch timing
The Xiaomi 18 Pro series is set to launch in China on September 23, with a global rollout expected later. Pricing, storage configurations, and international availability should all be confirmed at the keynote.

On paper, the privacy display is the feature that makes the 18 Pro stand out, more than the camera numbers. Xiaomi's light intake claims sound impressive, and it'll be worth seeing how they hold up in real-world shooting. Sadly, there's no word yet on global pricing, but I can't wait to see if per-app privacy works as neatly in hand as it does in the teaser.
