A Life Erased Overnight
Adapted from a hugely popular webtoon, Mousetrap tells the story of Mun-Jae, a reclusive writer whose existence unravels in an instant. Played by Ryu Jun-Yeol, Mun-Jae enjoys a quiet, solitary life before his phone suddenly stops accepting his fingerprint. Soon afterward, his only friend—the one person who helped him manage day-to-day life—vanishes without a trace. Something far more sinister is clearly at play.
With every step Mun-Jae takes to get answers, he discovers he can no longer prove his identity. Someone known only as “Rat” has taken everything: his name, his identity, and his possessions. Just like that, Mun-Jae is erased from his own life.
A Reluctant Partnership
Determined to reclaim what is his, Mun-Jae has to track down Rat. His pursuit leads him to No-Ja, a private detective played by Sul Kyung-Gu. No-Ja runs an information-finding agency with a reputation that does little to inspire trust. No-Ja, however, has his own motives: three years earlier, he lent Mun-Jae money right before Mun-Jae disappeared, and he wants it back. When he realizes Mun-Jae is pursuing Rat, No-Ja agrees to help, though their motivations are completely different. Whether they like it or not, the two men have to work together.
Two Men, One Mystery
The heart of Mousetrap lies in the uneasy partnership between Mun-Jae and No-Ja. Ryu Jun-Yeol plays a writer desperate for his stolen identity, while Sul Kyung-Gu portrays a detective chasing an intensely personal lead. Their opposing goals and tense alliance drive the suspense, as they unravel the secrets behind a bizarre disappearance.
The show adapts the webtoon created by Ludovico, with a script by Lee Jae-Gon and direction from Kim Hong-Sun. Before arriving at its final name, the project used working titles such as The Rat and Field Mouse.
