The biggest surprise is a downgrade to two rear cameras with no telephoto lens. At least you get a bigger battery and a lighter build to soften the blow.

Samsung's foldables are all anyone can talk about right now because Samsung decided to release two horizontally folding devices in the same cycle. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series has already undergone one of the most interesting naming reshuffles recently as the phone maker prepares to go head to head with Apple's iPhone Ultra.

What was originally the Fold 8 Wide became the standard Fold 8, while the original base Fold 8 was rebranded as the Fold 8 Ultra. Leaks now are confirming the full spec for the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 downsizes by one camera

X user Ahmed Qwaider (@AhmedQwaider888) shared what appears to be the complete specification sheet, with verified tech leaker Tarun Vats subsequently picking it up. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is mentioned with a 7.6-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display at 120Hz and a 5.5-inch QHD+ cover display.

The previous Z Fold 7 has a larger 8-inch main display, but the Z Fold 8 has a bigger cover display at 5.5 inches compared with the Z Fold 7's 6.5 inches.

Trusted leaker Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) shared an observation about the hinge and display crease, noting that Samsung has made it to snap more firmly between positions. The phone is no longer as easy to hold at certain in-between angles as before.

The phone's dimensions are 123.9 x 81.9 x 9.7mm folded, opening to 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.5mm and weighing 201 grams. It runs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip on a 3-nanometer process, paired with 12GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB.

Earlier leaks and reports suggested the Galaxy Z Fold 8 would sport a triple camera. But it has a dual camera setup instead. Samsung dropped the telephoto, meaning no optical zoom on the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8.

The main sensor resolution has also gone from the Z Fold 7's 200MP primary camera down to a 50MP wide lens. So, in total, there's a 50MP ultrawide at f/1.9 and a 50MP wide at f/1.8, with a 10MP cover camera and 10MP inner camera both at f/2.2.

Battery capacity is 4,800mAh with Super Fast Charging 2.0 and Fast Wireless Charging 2.0. Color options include Lavender, Cream, Pistachio, and Graphite.

Hopefully, there’s more to unpack

Perhaps, the major differences the Z Fold 8 has with the Z Fold 7 is that it's lighter at 201 grams versus 215 grams, and comes with a newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip versus the Z Fold 7's Snapdragon 8 Elite.

The battery has improved from 4,400mAh to 4,800mAh. The form factor is also different because the Z Fold 8 is taller and narrower when open.
