A Chilling Netflix Comeback
When this crime mystery, inspired by a novel from Søren Sveistrup, debuted on Netflix in September 2021, it kept viewers hooked across the globe, including France, where singer Grégoire publicly praised it. Now, five years after its unforgettable first run, the long-awaited sequel has arrived. Confirmed in 2024, the new season, titled The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek in English, is launching this spring exclusively on Netflix. The earlier series—simply The Chestnut Man (a direct translation of the Danish Kastanjemanden)—stood out for its tight, six-episode structure and intricate plotting that won over an international audience.
New Twists, Same Gripping Duo
The first season followed detectives Mark Hess (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard) and Naia Thulin (Danica Curcic) as they hunted a serial killer in Copenhagen who left chestnut figures at each crime scene. This season, reported as being inspired by Søren Sveistrup’s new novel Hide and Seek, reunites the same detective team for another tense investigation. There is still no official French title announced for the sequel.
Release Date and Episode Details
The new mini-series was released in full on Netflix on May 7, 2026. Like the first, it contains six episodes, each running between about 50 minutes and an hour—a solid block of binge-worthy suspense for fans old and new. At its announcement, Netflix shared a synopsis loosely based on Sveistrup’s upcoming novel Hide and Seek, which is reportedly scheduled for English-language publication on March 26, 2026.
A Darker Case This Time
So what new danger awaits Hess and Thulin? In this new chapter, the detectives must solve the disappearance of a 41-year-old woman, leading them into a desperate search for a man who had been stalking her and engaging her in a sinister game of hide and seek. Far from being an isolated incident, the case hints at a series of past murders—the killer may have already struck before, and the threat isn’t over yet.
