WhatsApp has just arrived on your dashboard—no more relying solely on Siri to send a message from your car. The popular messaging app now shows up directly on Apple CarPlay, letting you message and call with just a tap. This change streamlines life for anyone spending time on the road.

A Full CarPlay Overhaul

Until recently, WhatsApp’s CarPlay integration was limited to voice commands via Siri. That’s now history. WhatsApp has launched a dedicated CarPlay interface featuring three tabs: recent conversations, call history, and favorite contacts. Quick-access buttons let you dictate messages or place calls without ever leaving the main dashboard screen. Whether you need to send a quick update or return a missed call, it’s all right there. Every message and call continues to benefit from WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption. The interface now also displays your contacts’ profile photos, making it easier to identify who's messaging or calling at a glance.

The Calls tab distinguishes between incoming, outgoing, and missed calls, and you can return a call with a single tap. The Favorites tab syncs with the list you’ve defined in WhatsApp on your iPhone, so you don’t have to scroll through dozens of chats to find your key contacts.

Getting Set Up Is Effortless

WhatsApp now appears on your CarPlay display automatically once your iPhone is connected. You simply need the latest WhatsApp update (version 26.13.74 from the App Store). No additional configuration is required. This expansion followed a brief beta testing period through TestFlight, which began a week prior to the roll-out.

In-Car Apps Gain Momentum

WhatsApp isn’t the only app stepping up its dashboard game. ChatGPT recently debuted voice integration for CarPlay, thanks to Apple's conversational app support introduced in iOS 26.4. Google Meet now allows users to join meetings directly from their car’s dashboard as well.

In countries like France, where WhatsApp dominates instant messaging, these updates matter for millions of drivers using CarPlay daily. The change also helps Meta keep WhatsApp central in the face of growing competition from iMessage and RCS.

Tech Giants Compete for the Dashboard

Apple ushered in a new era last year with CarPlay Ultra, first launched in Aston Martin vehicles. Other automakers, including Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, have been slated to adopt it in 2026. As this ecosystem grows, the dashboard is becoming a true extension of the iPhone.

The logic is straightforward: the more accessible these apps are in your car, the more you'll use them during your daily routine. Silicon Valley’s biggest names are now in a race for your attention, battling to claim space on the dashboard alongside your car’s usual controls.
