‘War Machine' Shatters Viewing Records on Netflix
On March 6, Netflix added a new action film to its catalog: War Machine. The movie quickly found a huge audience, emerging as a major success for Netflix in early 2026. With its tough, no-nonsense style and relentlessly energetic pacing, the film has proven to be irresistible entertainment for subscribers.
According to L’Internaute, War Machine scored one of the platform’s best launches of the year, reaching 112 million views in under a month. The film stayed in the weekly Netflix Top 10 for a full month after its debut—a streak that put it within reach of the service’s all-time top 10. Whether it cracks the 138 million views set by Damsel remains to be seen, but the numbers so far are impressive by any standard.
Mixed Reviews, Massive Buzz
Critics weren’t blown away. The film earned a 70% rating from the press and 66% from the audience on Rotten Tomatoes. Still, the explosive action and high-energy storytelling seem to be what’s winning over viewers. Powered by a crowd-pleasing genre and a well-known cast, the movie’s popularity shows no sign of slowing down.
A Blend of Military Drama and Sci-Fi
The story follows a military engineer, played by Alan Ritchson (familiar to many from the series Reacher). After his brother is killed in combat, he signs up with the US Army Rangers. What begins as routine training soon spirals into a battle against a massive, otherworldly killing machine. The military-meets-science-fiction setup keeps the tension running high, echoing influences like Transformers and Predator—elements the director, Patrick Hughes, reportedly embraced.
The film’s cast also includes Jai Courtney (from A Good Day to Die Hard and Terminator Genisys), Esai Morales (seen in Mission: Impossible 7 and 8), and Dennis Quaid (well known for The Parent Trap and The Day After Tomorrow).
Action Remains King on Netflix
Action films continue to thrive on Netflix, with recent favorites like The Gray Man, Back in Action, Red Notice, Extraction, and Aka drawing huge viewership. War Machine now adds to this roster, further cementing its place among the most-watched action movies on the platform. Other high-profile releases, such as The Rip starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal, have also attracted large audiences.
