The wait is over! The official trailer for “Lord of the Flies”—the new Netflix series creating major buzz—has just dropped, and if you’re a fan of daring TV adaptations, mark your calendar for May 4.

From the Massive Success of “Adolescence”

In 2025, the British series Adolescence took Netflix audiences by surprise. Racking up about 142.6 million views and more than 546.5 million hours watched, it became Netflix’s second-biggest English-language series ever. To put it in context: it outperformed Stranger Things 4 (140.7 million views) and Stranger Things 5 (133.7 million), and was just behind the first season of Wednesday (252.1 million views).

Jack Thorne Tackles a Classic

Fresh from that accomplishment, Jack Thorne—co-creator of Adolescence, showrunner of The Eddy, and screenwriter behind His Dark Materials and the Enola Holmes movies—took on a new challenge: adapting William Golding's 1954 novel, Lord of the Flies. Netflix and the BBC recently unveiled the first trailer, setting the stage for what could be one of the year’s most-anticipated series.

Survival, Society, and Chaos

The story, as in Golding’s classic, centers on a group of British boys stranded on an uninhabited tropical island. At first, the boys work together to build a small society—but things quickly descend into chaos and anarchy. The series promises a striking visual style, with sharp contrasts and stylized shots teased in the trailer.

Direction and New Faces

All four episodes are directed by Marc Munden, known for his work on Utopia and episodes of The Sympathizer (co-created by Park Chan-wook). In front of his lens is a young cast of British actors, most of whom are new faces to viewers. Lox Pratt stars as Jack, Winston Sawyers as Ralph, and David McKenna as Piggy, joined by Ike Talbut (Simon), Thomas Connor (Roger), Noah Flemyng (Sam), Cassius Flemyng (Eric), Cornelius Brandreth (Maurice), and Tom Page-Turner.

This modern adaptation of Lord of the Flies arrives on Netflix May 4.
