Google’s own Android 16 QPR2 Beta 3 has hit a snag, and they've reportedly pulled it due to a SystemUI crash caused by desktop mode. But that's not stopping OnePlus, who is now moving full steam ahead with its own version of the software.
The company has officially unveiled OxygenOS 16, which takes Android 16’s foundation and layers it with deep AI integration among other interesting features. The Open Beta Program has already begun, and is now giving early users a chance to test all the new features.
The OnePlus 15 will be the first device to ship with the software on October 27. Other devices have also been confirmed and your device may be among them.
See everything new on OxygenOS 16
The heart of OxygenOS this year is Plus Mind. OnePlus says that it's your personal AI hub that recognizes what’s on your screen and stores it in Mind Space. When you see something you want to keep, simply swipe up with three fingers on your screen.
That gesture instantly activates the feature. On the OnePlus 13s, there’s a physical Plus Key button that does the same thing. If it detects a date or location, it can automatically suggest an action, such as adding the event to your calendar or saving an address to Maps.

Gemini is now also built directly into the software and it can access the Space to deliver context-aware responses. AI Writer is another feature to anticipate because it'll help you generate text, charts, mind maps, and captions.
Parallel Processing 2.0 allows animations and tasks to overlap and result in unprecedented smoothness across the UI. Cross ecosystem connectivity is more fluid than ever, so much that you can pair OnePlus phones and tablets with Apple devices, Macs, and Windows PCs.
Other features to arrive include the following:
- Personalize your lock screen: Lets you add videos, text, or moving photos to your lock screen.
- Private Computing Cloud: Keeps your private data safe with stronger, cloud-based encryption.
- Your Pad experience has evolved: you'll be able to run several apps side by side or drag files between devices.
- Fluid Cloud: Shows live updates from apps in a cleaner and more useful way.
