Android vs Apple: Which Is The Gaming Champion? 4

Ever since the invention of the smartphone it’s been a true battle royale. Both Apple and Android have their devotees. But in terms of numbers alone, it’s Android that continues to win out. No one could deny that the two different operating platforms, iOS and Android, have their own particular strengths and weaknesses. But how does that play out in the world of mobile gaming? And which type of device will give you the better playing experience, whether you’re on a site playing for money or simply enjoying mobile gaming for fun?

  1. Performance

The first aspect to look at is always going to be the relative performance of the systems so let’s start with battery life.

While this does tend to differ with phone model, Androids have traditionally been the better choice. This is because many models have larger batteries than their Apple rivals and it stands to reason that bigger batteries equal longer life. However, Apple have developed some very effective power management systems which can, for example, shut down apps when they are not being used as well as manage background tasks effectively

In Apple phones the A-series chips like the A17 Bionic are also optimised to deliver high levels of performance while also minimising power consumption. With control over both the hardware and software elements this creates a truly integrated approach.

With Android devices you will find a number of different chipsets including the Snapdragon and Media Tek Dimensity. The very best of these are more than a match for Apple’s, but this does very much depend on which particular model of device that you have.

  1. Graphics

Alongside blistering performance and the sort of battery life that won’t let you down in the middle of a session, great graphics are also a must. This is true for all games but especially if you’re playing one of the more sophisticated mobile titles like Genshin Impact – itself often used to test just how good a device’s gaming ability really is.

It all really comes down to the frames per second and the refresh rate. On an iPhone you’ll generally find that the FPS rate is capped at a stable level. However higher grade Android gaming phones support refresh rates of between 120 and 165Hz. This means the action remains super smooth, with no lag, even for the fastest games out there. So in this respect Android emerges as the true winner.

  1. Controls

A key challenge for developers creating games for mobile play is in incorporating controls. So touch latency, or how quickly the action on screen reacts, is an important consideration for players. It can affect everything from how satisfying a game is to play to how immersive it is. Apple have always been known for having some of the lowest touch latency rates there are with almost instant feedback in fast-paced games like CoD Mobile and Fortnite. There is far greater variation in Android devices , depending on their cost and level of sophistication.

Both include support for external controllers like the PS5 DualSense and there is fairly level parity between the two in this respect.

  1. Game choice

Of course, without plenty of the right games to play, the previous two points become fairly irrelevant.

As the devices move with the times, so too must gaming providers. In a country like Canada there is an increasing use of mobile online gambling following the loosening of rules around the activity and more and more provinces are coming on board. Casino.org suggest that the best Android casinos in Canada are the ones with the best games, most seamless play and most generous incentives. The casinos which score poorly are often those that feature old games which aren’t available on the device as they’ve not been optimized for mobile play, emphasizing the importance of providers catering for both Android and iOS users.

The Google Play Store has a wider selection of games than the Apple App Store with around 264,000 at the last count. That said, when a big new mobile game is launched it is likely to be via Apple who offer very generous developer incentives to ensure this is the case. It is also easier for developers as it means having fewer phones for which a game has to be optimised.

Excuse the pun, but the advent of streaming games has been a real game-changer too. With the choice of Apple Arcade and Google Play Pass the former offers over 200 premium games including quite a few exclusive titles like NBA 2K25 Arcade edition and Fantasian. There are more games available via Google, but fewer exclusive titles.

So it’s really a question of what your priorities are when it comes to this question. For choice of games and affordability then Android wins. But for the sharpest graphics and exclusive games Apple comes out on top. But for Android or Apple devotees the main advice is always going to be to stick with what you know best.
