Xiaomi's Poco subbrand hasn't been in the market for more than a decade, yet it has established itself as one of the prime options for consumers who need performance at a very sensible price point.

This year shows how far the company has come, all the way from the humble beginnings of the Pocophone F1 to the Poco F7 that has just launched today. The device brings a near-flagship chip, a simple design, and solid specs from top to bottom. The best part is that it won't cost you an arm and a leg.

The Poco F7 Is a Performance Beast Hiding in a Low Price Tier

When you go for a Poco device, you likely appreciate that the company provides a great blend of value and viciousness. The Poco F7 is the newest device from the company, and despite being priced very competitively, it'll come with the same chip as the upcoming “flagship” Nothing Phone 3.

The Design

The Poco F7 isn't a complicated-looking device, especially if you get it in the black or white colorways. You get a flat screen, a flat back panel, and a flat frame. The back has an oval-shaped dual-camera module in the upper right corner, with a metallic streak passing diagonally between the two lenses.

The device also comes in a louder dual-tone Cyber Silver variant. While the bottom two-thirds are silver, the top third is black, featuring various “cyber” details, including a Snapdragon logo. You also get IP68 certification.

The Screen

The Poco F7 doesn't call itself a gaming phone, but it isn't far-fetched that the device will be heavily in demand by gamers. With that in mind, it has to have a great screen, and in that aspect, it delivers.

  • 6.83-inch screen size
  • AMOLED screen technology
  • 1.5K (2772 x 1280) resolution, 447 PPI
  • 120Hz refresh rate
  • 3,200-nit peak brightness
  • 3,840Hz PWM dimming

The Hardware

This is the aspect in which the Poco F7 really stands out, since the company chose to go for the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. I don't know exactly what to classify that chip as, but it brings performance that is just shy of being considered flagship-grade. Plus, it is the same chip that the Nothing Phone 3 will have, and that's a device being called Nothing's first flagship.

Besides that, there'll be UFS 4.1 storage with 256GB or 512GB. Either way, you'll get 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM paired with that. On top of that, the device doesn't slow down, and you get the following:

  • Wi-Fi 7
  • Bluetooth 6.0
  • NFC
  • IR blaster
  • Under-display fingerprint sensor

The Battery and Charging

The battery renaissance stays strong, with the silicon-carbon tech enabling Poco to fit a massive 6,500mAh cell inside this one. On top of that, you still get 90W wired fast charging, so filling up that big battery won't take long at all. You also get reverse charging at up to 22.5W—that's power bank-grade.

The Cameras

Devices like this tend to fumble mostly when it comes to their camera setups, so if you want something that will serve as a spectacular imager, this might not be the choice. Either way, you get specs that are good enough.

The Pricing and Availability

Ordinarily, the Poco F7 will start at £389, but with the current early bird deal going on, that price point drops to just £319, and that's incredible value for this device. Plus, you will get 50 Mi Points, which equates to a further 15% off coupon. Don't forget that you get a 67W Xiaomi fast charger thrown in for free, too. That's a lot on offer, and this deal is valid until July 7th.
