I don’t have a smart lamp. There’s nothing wrong with that statement normally. But technology is growing so fast that even something as simple as your bedside lamp now comes with personality. Not having one almost feels like a crime.

The Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro embodies that idea with its addition of Sound by JBL. It's a second-generation ambient lamp that fuses real-time lighting effects with premium audio in one compact device. Here's how it will turn even the most ordinary corners of your home into multi-sensory spaces.

The Lamp 2 Pro brings the party to your side table

The Table Lamp 2 Pro looks adorable and has a soft-glowing jellybean appearance. Harmless as it looks, it's a CES 2025 award-winning product. That alone already hints at how powerful it is, and it's worth paying attention. By bragging rights alone, it helped Govee take home nine different awards.

The lamp syncs RGB light to music in 32 milliseconds, and supports full DIY control over your ambiance. It's more impressive how the lighting layer matches the audio output where each lamp renders light cues that reflect the stereo field.

If a snare hits on the left channel, the left lamp reacts visually in perfect sync, while the right lamp handles the corresponding echo or ambiance. This coordinated execution is made possible by the bandwidth and low-latency stability of 5.8GHz networking.

The DIY light canvas gives you control of a system that's already capable of adaptive response. The Govee app lets you access complete per-zone customization of the lamp’s lighting behavior and map gradients, assign animation sequences, and even adjust response curves to music.

Voice assistant integration also makes it possible to use Alexa and Google Assistant commands and restart manual operation. If you're so impressed that you buy two lamps, pair them for stereo sound and mirrored light shows. Pairing works with 10 other Govee devices. A single unit can last up to 4.5 hours on a 5200mAh battery, so it's a decent Bluetooth speaker.

5.8GHz Wi-Fi over Bluetooth any day

Bluetooth is the obvious way to pair and mirror your lamps. But the Lamp 2 Pro’s 5.8GHz Wi-Fi has lower latency. Most smart home devices only support 2.4GHz because it travels farther, but that means the network is congested because other connected devices are fighting for that same spectrum. Govee’s choice to use 5.8GHz enables the stereo pairing feature actually to feel seamless.

The speaker is actually a 2.5-inch, 500cc full-range driver designed to reproduce a wide frequency spectrum from bass to treble. So, you don’t need a separate woofer. Usually, you see “JBL” slapped on a lot of things these days, including projectors, and not all of them deserve it.

Again, small drivers would struggle to do anything below 150Hz without sounding hollow in a tiny space, as the lamp provides. But the 500cc chamber supposedly allows breathing room to push out lower mids without choking.

That said, don't expect heavy bass, but clarity that's enough for your entertainment. The Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro costs roughly $180. You can get it from Govee.com, Amazon, or the Sam’s Club online store.
