T-Mobile is officially launching its Fiber Home Internet service on June 5, 2025 across the US. The mobile carrier is going full-scale now after earlier testing phases and recently acquiring Lumos to help expand the service. It will cover 500,000 households, but they plan to reach up to 12-15 million homes by 2030.

The mobile carrier is also offering new Fiber Internet plans with fast speeds up to two gigabytes and price guarantees up to 10 years with a special promo. Clearly, there’s a big demand for better home internet and they're ready to fulfill it. Fiber is fundamentally better technology. Instead of using old copper phone lines or coaxial TV cables, fiber internet sends data through thin strands of glass at the speed of light.

That translates to ultra-fast speeds and ridiculously low lag. Since it’s symmetrical, your upload speeds mostly match your download speeds. Here's how T-Mobile will bring it closer to you in the coming days.

Lumos to power nationwide T-Mobile Fiber launch

T-Mobile has officially acquired Lumos, marking a major step in its strategy to expand into the fiber internet market. The acquisition was finalized in April 2025 through a joint venture with Swedish investment firm EQT. T-Mobile invested $950 million for a 50% stake in the venture, with plans to contribute another $500 million between 2027 and 2028 to fuel network growth.

Lumos was originally formed by merging Lumos Networks and NorthState Communications in 2022. It now operates a 7,500-mile fiber-optic network across the Mid-Atlantic region and serves around 475,000 homes across Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Now, T-Mobile is leveraging that infrastructure to supercharge its new Fiber service, officially launching nationwide this June.

What’s new about the launch is that they are offering new pricing plans that come with extra benefits. For example, new customers will get access to T-Mobile Tuesdays and a 5-year price guarantee. Whatever price you sign up for today, it's not going to raise for five years, even if inflation or market prices change.

Overall, T-Mobile is framing its acquisition of Lumos as part of their Un-carrier experience where, unlike many cable companies, they don't charge you equipment fees. Many cable companies charge $10-15 per month just to rent a router. They also pride themselves in not locking you into contracts and surprising you with price hikes.

T-Mobile fiber plans and features

T-Mobile has shared a price and feature breakdown of their new Fiber Home Internet plans. You have four options to choose from, depending on how fast you want your internet to be and how much you’re willing to pay per month:

Before T-Mobile bought Lumos, Lumos was already selling Fiber 500 and 1 Gig plans at lower prices than what T-Mobile is now charging under the T-Mobile Fiber brand. They offered Fiber 500 for about $20 less per month and the 1 Gig plan for about $10 less per month.

After the acquisition, T-Mobile has rebranded the packages and raised the prices. It raises concerns, given the company's history of throwing price transparency out the window. When PCMag asked about this, the carrier said that “nothing is changing for existing customers”. In other words, if you were already subscribed to Lumos plans before the T-Mobile Fiber launch, you will continue paying their original prices, not the new higher ones.
