The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is the slimmest smartphone that we've seen in a long time. The last time there was a mainstream Android device thinner than 6mm (excluding unfolded foldables) was in 2018, and considering that this one comes from a major Android OEM and is a flagship too, it makes it a device of note.
However, at just 5.8mm thin, it is valid to worry about how well the device will be able to handle a bending force. After all, we've had a few dramatic episodes with smartphones that bend a little too easily. Fortunately, Zack from JerryRigEverything put the phone through his usual test, and it's surprising how well this thin phone held up.
The Galaxy S25 Edge Somehow Doesn't Snap in Two When Bent With Full Force

I personally don't think slimness is a worthy trade-off for a solid spec sheet, especially when we're all fine with the average thickness of smartphones these days. However, Samsung decided that thinness was worth dropping a camera, fitting in a smaller battery, and bumping up the price. I'm interested in seeing how many consumers agree with Samsung's stance.

Considering that the S25 Edge is the thinnest phone that we've seen in over five years, and thin tends to be more fragile, it is very reasonable to want to know whether the phone can be bent if enough force is applied (mainly for those folks who like sticking phones in their back pockets). After the Note 7, I'm sure Samsung doesn't want its next fiasco to be a rerun of Apple's bendgate.

JerryRigEverything, a popular YouTuber, put the device through his usual smartphone torture testing, and during his bend test, I waited to see the phone bend like soft plastic. Shockingly, it held up near perfectly. Here are the major takeaways:
- Bent backwards, the device showed some flex but returned to normal after.
- Bent forward, the back panel lifted slightly on both sides of the phone, potentially compromising its IP certification, but the phone returned to normal after.
- There was no visible or functional damage to the screen or back panel following the bend test.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Performed Normally in Other Torture Tests
Of course, it wouldn't be a durability test from JerryRigEverything if the only thing that he tested was how easily the device bends. The phone went through the usual battery of tests and performed exactly as you'd expect most devices to, showing that the slim profile of the device really doesn't hold it back in terms of toughness.
| Test | Result |
| Scratch Test | Scratches at Level 6. Deeper grooves at Level 7. |
| Burn Test | AMOLED screen shows no damage after 30 seconds. |
| Bend Test | Minor flex, slight back panel lifting, no structural damage. |
Even though it is thin, it looks like Samsung made sure the phone isn't as delicate as it looks. The titanium frame and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 definitely help with the phone's toughness.
