The OnePlus 13 is the next device in line from the Chinese manufacturer. OnePlus started off as something of a dark horse, but these days, it has surpassed all expectations and cemented itself as one of the companies to look out for every single year.
The OnePlus 13 is about to be very different from the company's recent devices. Not just because rumor after rumor has pointed to the upcoming smartphone coming with a lot of top-of-the-line features, but because it'll be coming with the first design change in quite some time.
A Leak Gives Us Some Insight Into The Physical Camera Layout For The OnePlus 13
It's not entirely new information that the next flagship device from OnePlus is going to switch up the design of the camera module. We heard the information come from the reputable leaker Digital Chat Station much earlier in the year. Now, we get an actual look—well, sort of—at how the cameras for the OnePlus 13 will be laid out, courtesy of the exact same leaker.
Now, the first thing to keep in mind is that what you're looking at is not the design of the actual OnePlus 13. Going to such a boxy form would definitely be quite a change but it isn't the change OnePlus is opting for this time around. Instead, the device is put in a “privacy case”, which hides the design of the phone while keeping it usable. The cutouts for the rear cameras show us enough to let us know it'll be different from the OnePlus 12.
Each lens is a different size, which is quite different from what the company did with its previous phones. We can also see an oval cutout for what will likely hold the device's LED flash and other camera sensors. Asymmetrical camera modules can be disastrous when they aren't executed well, so I'm going to hope that OnePlus is making the right choice with what is likely to be quite a drastic change.
All Our Questions Will Be Answered With The OnePlus 13 Chinese Launch Next Month
It's been confirmed by a OnePlus exec that China is going to see the device in October, and considering that is just a few days away, we won't need to wait too long before we get to see what that privacy case is hiding. However, we do already know a few things.
For one, the OnePlus 13 is going to come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. That's hardly a surprise as it is basically accepted that each year's Qualcomm-loyal smartphones will move on to the next big chip that the company has on offer. However, one thing you might not have expected in the performance department is that it might have a top model that comes with 24GB of RAM—that's gaming phone-grade.
The OnePlus 13 is going to have some other tricks up its sleeve, to set it apart from the competition. For one, rumor has it that it might have a very impressive IP69 water resistance rating. Other rumors say that thanks to the company's new Glacier Battery tech, we might see a cell that surpasses the 6,000 mAh threshold. Fortunately, not too long until we know for sure.
