The sound that comes out of our smartphone speakers isn't exactly magical. Sure, it's gotten a lot better than it used to be, but it's not the same as using dedicated audio equipment. At the same time, you might want to enjoy your music better, but you might not want to carry around a bulky Bluetooth speaker.

Worry not. If you're looking for good sound quality but you also don't want to have a giant Bluetooth speaker going with you everywhere you go, then I've put together the list for you. Here are some of the most compact Bluetooth speakers you can get this year, and many of them can slide right into a pocket.

Soundcore Motion 300

$79.99

The Soundcore Motion 300 from Anker is one of the best compact portable speakers you can get. It's a tad bigger than the others on the list but can still slip inside a larger pocket. You get two drivers with 30W of sound (more power than most speakers in this class), IPX7 water resistance, and 13 hours of playback.

Ultimate Ears WonderBoom 3

$72.00

The Ultimate Ears WonderBoom 3 will set you back by quite a lot, but you get a sexy-looking speaker for that price. It is IP67 dust and water resistant, gives you 360-degree sound, and can even float on water for those pool days. You get 14 hours of playback in this small chassis.

Monster DNA Link

$26.11

Not all pocketable speakers are costly enough for you to have to really think about it. Monster, the company that brought us Beats By Dre, made the DNA Link. You get IPX5 water resistance so it can withstand splashes (but don't take it for a dunk) and 12 hours of playback.

Soundcore Mini 3

$40.99

Soundcore is Anker's audio-focused sub-brand, and the Mini 3 brings a tiny Bluetooth speaker that can literally be pocketed. It is IPX7 water resistant and provides a surprising amount of bass from its diminutive frame. You get 15 hours of playback, though you only get a single 6W speaker in this.

Skullcandy Ounce+

$29.99

Skullcandy is a pretty well-known name in consumer audio, especially among the younger audience. The Ounce+ speaker is tiny, but don't doubt it. It comes with IPX7 water resistance, 16 hours of battery life, and it can even be paired to another Ounce+ for more pounds of sound.

Tribit Stormbox Micro 2

$59.99

The Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 is small, but considering it is from Tribit, you know it has some tricks up its sleeve. For instance, you get a 10W driver that sounds surprisingly loud. You also get IP67 weather resistance and 12 hours of playback. Did I mention it can be a power bank in a pinch?

JBL Clip 4

$49.95

JBL is one of the better-known names in audio, and if you're a lover of bass, then the JBL Clip 4 might be the way to go for you. It is tiny, has a carbiner to hook it almost anywhere, and boasts of IP67 dust and water resistance. It has 10 hours of battery life, which isn't the best compared to others, but it's good enough.

Sony SRSXB13/B Extra Bass

$58.00

Sony's confusing model numbers aside, the Sony SRSXB13/B is the one for you if bass is your thing; it's in the name after all. You get IP67 certification, a good 16 hours of battery life, and a 13W battery. You can also connect a second identical speaker for a stereo effect.

When I Say Pocketable, I Mean It

Portable is a word that can mean a lot to different people, but when it comes to “pocketable”, I reckon that most of us have a similar picture in our heads of what to expect and that's what I've tried to deliver on here.

Personally, my favorite of these small speakers is the Soundcore Motion 300 because I'm all about the sound, honestly. With two drivers for a total of 30W of power, it's hard to sway me from any other on the list. However, I am a fan of the designs of the Sony and Wonderboom speakers, so I'm definitely open to some others. Which one speaks to you the most? Let us know in the comments.
