As Samsung’s smartwatches are set for a charging speed increase, the company’s neglect of its smartphones is even more glaring.

Samsung's Galaxy Watch lineup uses a wireless charging puck to charge the smartwatches. Wireless charging is a more technical technology, and charging speeds aren't as high as wired speeds can be (though some manufacturers are hitting 50W). For the Galaxy Watch 6, that was limited to 10W of wireless charging.

With the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 series, Samsung seems set to give its smartwatches a major boost in charging, which is great. But it begs the question, why has it been so long since Samsung has shown similar love to its actual smartphones and their charging?

The Galaxy Watch 7 Models Will Be Getting A 50% Increase In Their Charging Speeds

Samsung's seventh generation of smartwatches is expected to land on the scene in July, along with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. The last two generations of smartwatches from the Korean manufacturer came with 10W fast charging, which for the most part, seemed good enough considering the relatively diminutive size of smartwatch batteries.

However, in the quest for consumer convenience, there's no such thing as “good enough”, and thanks to MySmartPrice, we know that Samsung has decided to crank up the charging speeds for the Galaxy Watch 7 (at least the one with the model number SM-L305) to 15W, which is a 50% boost over what we had with last year's iteration. This is major, and the difference should definitely be felt even with a slightly bigger battery.

Why Is Samsung Hesitant On Bringing The Same Good Tidings To Its Smartphones?

A 50% charging speed increase is far from being small and it's nice to see Samsung, of all companies, embracing such a massive charging speed increase. It's not the first time though. In fact, with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ in 2019, charging speeds went from the S10+ and the Note 9's 15W, straight to 45W, which was a 200% increase.

However, since 2019, no Samsung smartphone or tablet has crossed the 45W mark. In fact, even today, if you buy a Galaxy S24, you only get 25W of charging. You have to go with the S24+ or S24 Ultra to get 45W. Even the extremely expensive Galaxy Z Fold 5 tops out at 25W. What gives Samsung?

There have been several rumors surrounding Samsung's upcoming foldables, but it seems they are set at sticking to 25W charging as well, in a world where many manufacturers are touching 66W, 80W, and even the 100W+ marks. Maybe the Galaxy S25 will change things, but it's been five years since a major charging speed increase, so I'm not holding my breath.

The Galaxy Watch FE Will Be A Relative Charging Snail, With Dated 5W Charging

The Galaxy Watch FE (unofficial naming) is going to be a much cheaper Galaxy Watch from Samsung this year and is suspected to be a refresh of the Galaxy Watch 4. It's going to be a budget watch and apparently, that means you should expect essentially all of its specs to be dated.

That includes the charging speed, which seems set to drop down to a sluggish 5W. Maybe some people won't care about this, but compared to the 15W models coming out alongside it, the difference is bound to be night and day.
