Howto guide on SMS backups for Android devices

There's many an app available on the Android Market for anyone who wants to back up their devices features, apps, or documents. What about your SMS messages? Yup, there's a way to do that too. XDA member Pyr0TeK was kind enough to write up a little guide over it, with the aid of two apps available on the Android Market, which you'll be able to download below.

You'll need to download the following apps to get the process started. Simply scan or click below to grab and install.

Smart Bar – – – – – – – – – – – – -Uppidy

  1. Once you have these installed. You will need to launch Uppidy and create a account which is located at https://armortext.com/. The software with do this for you once you launch it. Once you have it installed and configured, set the upload interval to your preference:
  2. After Uppidy is installed and configured, launch Smart Bar.
  3. On the following screen, select Application manager.
  4. Long press on the application you wish to “Hide”, in this case, choose Uppidy.
  5. Scroll down and click on “Hide app”.
  6. On this screen, the restart option will not work with some launchers. If your Uppidy application still appears in your app drawer after clicking “Restart”, reboot the phone and should no longer appear.
  7. To “Unhide” the application, launch Smart bar again, then “Application Manager”, and press menu, then select “Hidden apps”.
  8. From this screen you can unhide any apps you have hidden back to display in the app drawer.

  1. I use a software called VeryAndroid SMS Backup to transfer sms from android to my computer direclty. Works great.

  2. SMS Backup+ is the way to go. I love the auto backup and automatic setup into GMail is a breeze. It is even used by my sister on her daughters phone to monitor her texts.
