For some, the start of a new year comes with resolutions and gym goals, but for Android lovers, it comes with the promise of a new Samsung Galaxy S device. This time, it's the S24 series launching on January 17th. As has become the trend, leaks have preceded the actual launch of the device, hinting at a “Galaxy AI” feature. Quite interestingly, the same leaks say that feature may eventually cost you money to use.

It's all but certain at this point that one of the major selling points of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will be “Galaxy AI”. With the popularity of AI nowadays, it's little surprise, especially after the Google Pixel 8 launched with their AI capabilities being heavily marketed.

However, according to Android Headlines, Galaxy AI might eventually come with a price tag for you to utilize its features. That's right: a leak suggests that this major feature will only be free to use until 2025, after which point it's assumed that Samsung will start charging for it.

It's not sure whether they'll be charging only for premium features or all of them, or whether it will be a subscription-based service. It's not even certain if this is truly Samsung's plan until the actual launch comes to make things official. But if it happens to be true, a lot of people likely won't be happy.

Rumored Features Coming With Galaxy AI

If you're going to have to pay to use Galaxy AI at some point, then the features have to be good, right? There's not too much known about what we can expect Samsung's AI feature to offer, but there's quite a bit of speculation in that regard.

One thing that will come for sure is a feature called AI Live Translate Call. Samsung mentioned this in a blog post from last year, and it's supposedly going to make it possible to translate a phone call in real time as you converse. If it works as expected, that feature could be a major game-changer.

It's rumored that one of the AI features on offer will be a generative AI model called Samsung Gauss. You can think of that as having ChatGPT built into your Samsung device. We're also expecting some AI camera features to rival the Pixel — perhaps something similar to the Best Take feature. AI is also likely to find its way into Samsung Keyboard in a major way according to tipster Alvin on X.

Besides AI, What Can We Expect From The Galaxy S24 Series?

Galaxy AI is going to be a major part of the Samsung Galaxy S24 keynote, but that's just one segment of the show. The new hardware is going to be unveiled and we know quite a bit about what to expect specs-wise.

As usual, there will be three devices in the series with no changes to the naming convention, and all will be running One UI 6.1. The S24 Ultra will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 while the S24 and S24+ will have the Snapdragon in the US and the Exynos 2400 in Europe. You'll have 8GB of RAM in the S24 and 12GB in the other models.

In the display department, there will be 6.2″ FHD+, 6.7″ QHD+, and 6.8″ QHD+ screens with a max refresh rate of 120Hz for the S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra respectively. Notably, with the camera hardware, the S24 Ultra will drop the 10x periscope telephoto lens for a 5x lens instead, but will likely achieve sharp 10x shots with a digital boost.

The series will be officially unveiled at Samsung Unpacked on January 17th in San Jose, CA. Are you going to put in a preorder, or will you be waiting to see what Samsung's foldables have to offer later in the year?
