T-Mobile is back in the news and yes, the carrier has once again experienced issues trying to protect its customer's data. After numerous reports by Uncarrier subscribers saying that they were seeing other subscriber's data in the T-Mobile app, rather than yet another data breach causing by a cyberattack the carrier is saying that it was merely a ‘system glitch'.

As reported by The Verge and in the T-Mobile subreddit, users were seeing the data from other subscribers when accessing the “Bill” and “More” tabs in the official app on both Android and iOS. This data included credit balances, purchase history, phone numbers, addresses, along with expiry dates and the last four digits of their credit cards.

“There was no cyberattack or breach at T-Mobile. This was a temporary system glitch related to a planned overnight technology update involving limited account information for fewer than 100 customers, which was quickly revolved.”

It was originally thought that the king of data breaches had once again been the victim of yet another cyberattack but this theory has been quashed by a statement issued by T-Mobile saying that it was a ‘temporary system glitch. Somehow, this isn't the comfort that the carrier thinks it is, as it just points to more careless handling of its customer's data. There should be internal safeguards against this sort of ‘technical glitch', and considering the number of data breaches experienced by the carrier over the years, one might hope that T-Mobile would be more diligent with its internal processes.

According to T-Mobile, the system glitch has been fixed, and it's working on fixing any issues caused to accounts that were affected.
