Whether you've been stranded on the side of a highway, exploring the jungle, or perhaps sailing the high seas, it can be nigh on impossible to get cellular coverage to send a message to your loved ones. This may well be a thing of the past thanks to Motorola's new Defy Satellite Link which enables messaging from almost anywhere thanks to its two-way satellite messaging capability. Now on sale for $149/£159 you'll be pleased to learn that the Defy Satellite Link works with both Android and iOS devices.
The handy sized Defy Satellite Link connects IOS and Android smartphones directly to powerful GEO stationary satellites 22,300 miles up in space and enables users to send messages to and from space in minutes. In addition, the motorola defy satellite link comes with a satellite enabled SOS function and real time location sharing with a physical ‘Check In’ button, so friends, family or co-workers can follow the user’s journey progress and stay in touch no matter where their route takes them.
The device connects to your handset via Bluetooth before synching with geostationary satellites some 22,300 miles above the earth, enabling the sending of text messages via the Bullit Satellite Messenger app. The recipient can read the message as a regular SMS to their existing phone and can reply once they've downloaded the Bullit Satellite Messaging app. There's no need for the recipient to purchase the Defy Satellite Link which gives the sender free range to send messages at will.
The cost of the messages sent or received over satellite will be deducted from the satellite messaging subscriber’s plan with no cost to the recipient. There is no charge to either party when sending or receiving messages over an internet connection.
The Defy Satellite Link comes with a 12-month Essential Plan subscription included which gives the user up to 30 messages a month and 24/7 access to emergency response centers provided by FocusPoint International. The other plans run from $5-$25 monthly and there's also a one-off plan for $60 which gives a lumpsum of 250 messages which can be used at anytime.
The Motorola Defy Link costs $149/£159 and you can pick one up directly from the MotorolaRugged store or from AT&T, REI Co-op, Bass Pro.com, B&H Photo, and more.
