Having added the ability to edit one's messages within a 15-minute window, WhatsApp could soo add screen sharing and the option to add a username to profiles according to WABBetaInfo. The addition of a username would bring WhatsApp into line with its fellow Meta-owned siblings such as Facebook and Instagram.
Screen Sharing
If you've ever been on a WhatsApp video call and wished you could share your smartphone screen to the person on the other side, it seems that your wish might come true. WABetaInfo says that WhatsApp beta for Android (v 2.23.11.19) includes screen sharing functionality which can be activated by tapping on an icon in the call control menu that pops up during calls.
According to the blurb that pops up once the screen sharing icon has been pressed, WhatsApp will have access and share the following information:
“WhatsApp will have access to all of the information that is visible on your screen or played from your device while recording or casting. This includes information such as passwords, payment details, photos, messages, and audio that you play.”
Possibly one of the big uses for screen sharing will be tech support for those family members that also have issues using technology. The screen sharing function is rolling out to WhatsApp beta users over the coming weeks.
Username
The addition of usernames to WhatsApp accounts (v 2.23.11.15) will make it easier for people to message you by simplying typing in your username rather than your mobile number. This means you'll be able to keep your number private.
Here comes the tricky party: Because each username is unique, you'll need to act quickly in order to claim the username you want or else you'll have to start tweaking the name. As they often said in Highland, there can only be one.
Since this function is still in development, there's no timeline on when it will begin rolling out, but it will probably be available to beta testers first.
