Ahead of the official launch on February 7th, OnePlus has announced that its upcoming Buds Pro 2 will feature support for Spatial Audio – making it one of the first TWS earbuds to do so. Set to launch alongside the OnePlus 11 5G, the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 will “adopt Google's signature spatial audio feature” that was developed for Android 13.
That's great but what is Spatial Audio?
In basic terms, Spatial Audio creates a multi-dimensional audio experience within a pair of tiny earbuds. This means that the sound comes from a fixed position regardless of movement and with the same quality as 3D audio in a cinema. This is done with an IMU sensor and a spatial rendering algorithm.
With Android 13, we added spatial audio functionality with the opportunity for partners to use it within their own devices,” said Erik Kay, VP of Engineering at Android. “With OnePlus integrating this new framework alongside support for Fast Pair and audio switching, we're looking forward to adding their Buds 2 Pro Series to the Android ecosystem of connected devices that all work better together.”
As mentioned in the quote above, the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 will also benefit from Android's Fast Pair feature that lets you connect to nearby Android devices with a single tap and also connect to two devices simultaneously, seamlessly switching audio without the need to go into Bluetooth Settings.
We don't have too long to wait until all is revealed on February 7th during the OnePlus Cloud 11 event being held.
