During it's first every ‘Green Day' event, Acer took the wraps off its new Chromebook Vero 514 which, apart from being powered by the latest 12th Gen Intel chips (up to i7), is made from a combination of recyclable and recycled materials. Packing in a 14-inch FHD touchscreen display, the Vero 514's eco-friendly credentials are bolstered by supporting easier upgrades, repairs, and of course, recycling.
Available in both non-touch and touchscreen configurations, the 14-inch display has FHD resolution, 300 nits of brightness (more than some premium Dell laptops), and makes use of Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
The Chromebook Vero 514 also benefits from MIL-STD-810H durability, a 10-hour battery life along with support for fast charging with the included 65W adaptor which provides a 50% charge in just 30 minutes. There's support for WiFi 6E along with a pair of USB-C ports, a USB 3.2 Type-A port, and an HDMI slot.
The Vero 514's chassis, keykaps, and speakers are made from post-consumer recycled plastic and “ocean-bound plastics”, and even the touchpad is made from “OceanGlass” which looks and feels like a traditional touchpad. It's ok being green, but consumers also want power and flexibility from their devices, and the Chromebook Vero 514 doesn't shirk in that respect thanks to using the latest 12th Gen Intel chips with Iris Xe Graphics onboard.
The first Vero 514 model to go on sale in the US at Best Buy in mid-October and in Europe during November will feature a 14-inch non-touch display, Intel Core i3-1215U processor, 8GB RAM, 128GB NVme SSD, and a price tag of $499/€599.
