Netflix Gaming

With Stadia, GeForce Now, Xbox Game Pass, Luna, and Steam, to name just a few gaming libraries, you may have been thinking that one more option could be the one for you. If so, you'll be glad to learn that Netflix Gaming is coming to Android devices from tomorrow (November 3rd) with no ads or fees, the only caveat is that you must subscribe to the streaming service.

As mentioned, it's free to Netflix subscribers (every profile on the account) with no ads, subscription fees, or in-app purchases (IAPs). The absence of IAPs means that you won't be getting any surprisingly hefty bills, nor will the games be available on kids' profiles. If you’ve set up a PIN to prevent kids from having access to adult profiles, that same PIN will be required in order to log in to Netflix and play the game on a device.

For the moment, Netflix Gaming is only available on Android smartphones and Tablets although Netflix says that iOS support is “on the way.”

  • Members on an Android mobile phone will see a dedicated games row and games tab where you can select any game to download.
  • Members on an Android tablet will see a dedicated games row or be able to select games from the categories drop-down menu to download and play.

The first five games include:

  • Stranger Things: 1984
  • Stranger Things 3: The Game
  • Shooting Hoops
  • Card Blast
  • Teeter Up

The games will automatically be shown in your default language although if it isn't supported yet then the games will default to English. Some games will need an internet connection to play but Netflix says that there will also be titles available to play offline, which is handy for those long trips.

With an initial library of just five titles, it's hardly worth signing up to Netflix purely to play games but it's a nice little bonus for current subscribers.
