YouTube isn't the only streaming service trying a new pricing tier; Spotify is also reportedly testing the waters for an ultra-cheap $0.99 plan, for a certain selection of random listeners.
This new plan, preliminarily called Spotify Plus, would mix some of the features of the big Spotify Premium plan with the cheap benefits of the free tier.

So what does a measly dollar per month get you? Well, you'll be making some trade-offs, obviously, the biggest of which is ads. You'll still be subjected to Spotify's advertising with Plus, so you can expect commercials every few songs.
But you do get much more control over your music. You'll get an unlimited number of skips compared to the free tier's six skips per hour, and you can pick and choose whatever you want to listen to instead of just having to shuffle through your tunes and playlists.
Spotify tests these things pretty randomly, so don't get too locked in to this price point. They'll offer it to a few users to gauge interest and how sustainable the pricing would be before actually rolling anything out, so things can and will change before this turns into a real offering, if it ever does.
But if it does? I can definitely see the appeal, especially if Spotify is trying to snipe off users from other streaming services. Someone that's invested in Apple Music or YouTube Music might not care about Spotify, but they have an Xbox or PlayStation console. For a dollar per month, they can get some extra functionality on their preferred gaming platform, and that might open the door to a full Spotify switchover at some point.
