For many owners of Android smartphones, swiping right brings the ever-helpful Google Discover page into view with news articles that align with their interests. Not so for owners of Samsung devices who have had to make do with the brands Samsung Daily offering that attempts to replicate the Google experience. It's bad news for those hoping for it to be replaced by Google Discover, though, because it will instead be usurped by ‘Samsung Free' according to the notice sent by the company to its users.
Yup, ‘Samsung Free' doesn't sound like there was much in the way of inspiration when it came to naming Samsung Daily's replacement. According to the Korean company, Samsung Free will offer easier navigation thanks to a multi-tab structure with content such as news and games in the new format. Samsung will also discontinue a selection of cards although it's not known which cards will cease to be supported at this time.
After the rumor that Samsung was in negotiations with Google to move over from Bixby to the Google Assistant, it's a shame that Samsung isn't switching over to the Discover feed as well.
