We recently reviewed the Red Magic 5G and now Nubia has gone and unleashed a refreshed version of the gaming smartphone called the Red Magic 5S. The 5S is more refined as opposed to a completely new handset, adding improved cooling technology into the mix.

Updated August 26th: Global pre-orders for the Red Magic 5S are now live with orders set to begin shipping from September 2nd for the following prices:

8GB/128GB/Sonic Silver: $579/£539
12GB/256GB/Pulse: $649/£599

As with the 5G, the Red Magic 5S still sports a 6.65-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. Surprisingly, the 5S is powered by the still-powerful Snapdragon 865, instead of the souped-up SD865+ that was announced a couple of weeks ago. Heat dissipation is enhanced by the addition of the upgraded ICE 4.0 cooling system. Up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM is present, as is up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The ICE Dock (pictured above) is designed specifically for the Red Magic 5S, with the aim of keeping the phone cool during extended gaming sessions.

Gaming controls such as shoulder triggers with 320Hz touch response rates are, of course, present, along with high-quality audio and 4D Shock for a truly immersive experience. You'll also find a 3.5mm audio jack, dual-mode 5G support, 55W fast-charging, and a 4,500mAh battery present on the handset.

The triple rear camera setup consists of Sony's 64MP IMX686 primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a dedicated 2MP Macro lens.

The Red Magic 5S comes in the following three models:

Sonic Silver (8GB/128GB): 3,799 CNY/ ~$542
Pulse (12GB/256GB): 4,399 CNY/ ~$628

The Red Magic 5S goes on sale in China from August 1st and globally from sometimes during September.
