Microsoft's Your Phone is fast becoming a must-have productivity app for Android phones with its ability to connect smartphones to Windows computers. While you can install Your Phone to most Android handsets, some features such as screen mirroring are limited to Samsung smartphones, as is the new Drag & Drop function that is rolling out to Link to Windows users bringning the ability to transfer files from the phone to the PC and vice versa.
Having been on limited release to Windows Insiders, Drag & Drop is now rolling out to all Link to Windows users, with a pop-up appearing to notify when it's become available. Users will be able to transfer up to 512MB consisting of 1-100 files at a time as long as both devices are connected to the same WiFi network and using Link to Windows v1.5 or higher.
Now the bad news. As mentioned in the opening paragraph, the Drag & Drop function is indeed limited to a selection of Samsung flagship and mid-range smartphones such as the Galaxy S9 and Note 9 onwards, the Galaxy A series, and the Galaxy Fold/Z Flip foldables.
It's great that Microsoft and Samsung are getting on so well and supporting each others products like this, but it feels like Google has missed a trick here in that there is no built-in option to do transfer files from the phone to the PC without having to resort to uploading them to the cloud or wasting a lifetime by using Bluetooth.
