We're all familiar with Bixby today, but what was essentially Samsung's first virtual assistant was S-Voice. It first launched alongside the Galaxy S3 in 2012, but now Samsung says this antiquated software is on its way to the grave.
S-Voice has existed on most Samsung handsets from 2012 to at least 2017, before Samsung's new virtual assistant, Bixby, launched on the Samsung Galaxy S8.
But now that most users are moving over to recent flagships with Bixby, Samsung has plans to shut down S-Voice. In a statement to SamMobile after June 1, 2020, all S-Voice queries will be responded to with “I'm unable to process your request.”
Older virtual assistants probably aren't used that much, with most of them not having the contextual abilities to be convenient enough for use. That said, there will be some devices just left without a virtual assistant, since Bixby isn't retroactively applied to all older phones and wearables.
