OnePlus dark mode

Dark mode is a big deal for Android users. It was a primary selling point with Android 10, and tons of apps and developers have been quickly trying to support that new native dark theme.

But not all apps have taken advantage of Android's native dark mode. Lots of apps are lagging behind, with some apps having no timeline for the AMOLED-friendly theme.

Forced OnePlus dark mode

OnePlus might be working on a solution for this, though. The latest build of OxygenOS beta for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro seem to hint at a forced dark mode for Android apps. This feature is rumored in some strings within the code of the settings app in these new builds, and would force apps to darken everything, whenever it's actually turned on.

This new feature should allow users to forcefully turn on dark mode for some apps while leaving some apps in their normal light mode, allowing you to mix and match as you see fit. It should also force some apps to use the night-friendly theme, even if they don't natively support that, although you run the risk of those apps looking terrible under certain circumstances.

With these early builds still existing in beta, it might be awhile before we see the forced OnePlus dark mode make its way into some kind of useable setting. But it's clearly something OnePlus is working on, so it could happen sooner than you think.
