Adding WiFi connectivity to a BBQ is not something that I would have dreamed possible, or even necessary, a decade or longer ago, but it's now a real thing that is actually useful. Well-known BBQ company, Weber, has announced its new add-on accessory called the Connect Smart Grilling Hub that can add WiFi to any grill, regardless of brand.

While the Weber Connect Smart Grilling Hub might not be of use for grilling the odd steak or pork chop if you are actually stood next to the grill, it comes into its own when you leave the grill unattended so you can catch the big game or even go to work while you slow-cook or smoke that fancy hog-roast. You can plug in up to four food and ambient temperature probes into the hub that sync up with the Weber Connect app on your phone (Android or iOS) so you can monitor the cooking progress from afar.
Features
- Flip & Serve Notifications: Receive alerts when food is ready to flip and the perfect temperature to serve.
- Food Readiness Countdown: Track food progression based on time & temp.
- Custom Food Doneness Alerts: Select food doneness (ex. medium-rare steak) and get an alert once it’s ready.
- Step-By-Step Grilling Assistance: Guidance on everything from grill setup to when it’s time to eat.
- Remote Wi-Fi®️ Access: Check food status such as doneness, time & temp, and readiness countdowns at the grill or on your phone.
The Hub features a built-in display that shows the temperature of a specific probe and you can access a library of grilling info in the app. Weber says that it plans on adding Alexa integration to the device later this year. The Weber Connect Smart Grilling Hub will set you back $130 and is scheduled to go on sale in 30 countries sometime in early 2020.
