We're all familiar with the floating conversation heads in Facebook Messenger, but now it seems that Google's Messages app is testing something similar for its own texting conversations.
It's being developed in the back-end as the Bubbles API. It hasn't made it into a stable release of Android 10 yet, but it is expected to make it to a final release in the future.
It's in development, and Google is urging developers to try it out, as well as in their own apps. Developers should be able to test it out within Android's Developer Options — just head into Settings > Developer Options > Bubbles.
Google is hoping that developers will take the API for a test run and ensure that it works within their own apps, as it's something that will likely go live in Android 11.
The floating conversation head / overlay does add a level of ease of access here. Tap on the floating head, and you should be able to respond to conversations quickly, without opening up the Messages app in a separate conversation. You can dismiss it just like you would a Facebook Messenger conversation head, too.
There's no word yet on an official release; for the time being, it's just going to be something thoroughly tested. We'll see it in a future version of Android, no doubt.

This is a lot like what Samsung has been doing for years to have multiple apps open, and you can minimize them in a floating button also. I can already do this with Google Messages and a lot of other apps on my Galaxy Note and S phones. It is great that Android is now letting their own apps and developers use this now.
