Sony is prepping another Xperia Compact phone with a 5.5-inch screen and Snapdragon 655 4

It's been a while since we've seen an Xperia Compact device, but it turns out that particular flavor of Sony phones isn't dead yet. A new leak suggests that another upper-midrange Xperia Compact is set for release very soon.

This unnamed phone will reportedly use a 5.5-inch display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 655 CPU, which we have mixed feelings about. It won't be a true flagship like previous Compact phones, but a 5.5-inch screen with minimal bezels would definitely be on the smaller end of smartphones these days. That 655 CPU is also still a pretty capable chip, even if it's not at the top of the dogpile.

However, Sony's been rocking that 21:9 aspect ratio on its phones lately, which would make this Compact a pretty tall phone for its otherwise small shape. I don't know how well customers are going to react to that.

As far as naming goes, it'd only make sense for this to be called an Xperia 1 Compact or Xperia 10 Compact, but Sony names don't always make the most sense. It could also be similar to the Xperia Ace, which was only released in Japan. Whatever they decide to go with, they're going to need this phone to be a mega-hit to avoid making their smartphone business even worse than it already is.
