LG's UX UI has never been the most appreciated custom interface in the Android world and lately has looked more than a little dated. As other brands have made their UI's lighter and more user-friendly, LG's UX has been given the equivalent of a chocolate frying pan in recent years as it was sent over the top to battle against its competitors. It seems that this is about to change, though, with UX version 9.0 that looks more lightweight and easier to use than ever before. In fact, looking at the official promo video posted on YouTube, it would appear that LG has finally brought out the big guns in order to compete with its rivals.
As you can see from the embedded video, UX 9.0 has taken some inspiration from its One UI and EMUI rivals, and that's no bad thing when you remember where the UI is coming from. There's more space to work with, actionable items are conveniently located at the bottom of the screen which means you no longer have to try and dislocate your finger when trying to reach them. There are lots of rounded corners to be seen, and you can even schedule light and dark modes. Where has this come from, I hear you ask? Who knows, it is good to see LG finally address one of the issues most mentioned when discussing one of the smartphones because the Korean company does make good phones. It's just that, along with the often boring exterior design, the software was pretty dull.
According to the YouTube listing, the G8X ThinQ (reviewed here) is first in line to be updated to UX 9.0, and we'll hopefully we'll see the regular G8 ThinQ (on sale for $399 for Black Friday)getting the UI upgrade sooner rather than later. What do you make of UX 9.0?
